Doug Flannery

Senior Director of Operations, New York Road Runners

Doug Flannery is the Senior Director of Operations for the New York Road Runners (NYRR) / TCS New York City Marathon, where he’s in charge of over 50 personnel in the Event Development & Production Department. He is responsible for all matters pertaining to the safety, security, and operations of 60+ NYRR events including the Marathon, Poplar Brooklyn Half Marathon, United Airlines NYC Half Marathon and all events throughout the five NYC Boroughs. His other responsibilities include vendor/sponsor management, municipal, state and Federal government agency relationships, permitting, medical and race management logistics, technical production, timing and scoring, and event staffing and volunteer management among others.

Prior to his current role, Doug was the Director, Race Operations for the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) / Boston Marathon. Director for all matters pertaining to the operations, safety, security, technical production, contracts, vendor management, and distribution/logistics for four events (B.A.A. 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Boston Marathon). He served as the liaison to municipal, state and Federal governments and agencies with whom the B.A.A. works and coordinates in the production and conduct of all competitive events.

Doug also served 31 years in the US Navy where he retired at the rank of Commander. Born in Rockford, IL, Doug has completed 147 marathons, including five Boston Marathons, with a personal best of 2:37. He is also an MBA graduate from Texas A&M University.
